The Late Holocene saw periods of catastrophic flooding in Africa and in Mesopotamia. Noah is the legendary hero of a flood in the Lake Chad area when the Sahara experienced a later wet period (Karl W. Butzer 1966). This is the period of the Old Kingdom, a time of great cultural and technological achievement in Egypt.Alice C. They would have been larger versions of the reed boat shown on the Just Genesis masthead. The construction of such boats was very labor intensive and required many laborers. The common folks used dugouts.

Finkel is referring to the Mesopotamian flood account, which is later than the Nilotic account of Noah bringing only 2 of each animal, male and female, on the ark. Atram-Hasis was a Sumerian king who lived before the flood. I don't believe that this is the same person as the Biblical Noah.Alice C.
