However, ethnic identity was traced through the mother. These rulers married 2wives; one a patrilineal cousin and the other a half-sister, so the wife's bloodline is traceable. Biblical genealogy is always patriarchal, and that begins in Genesis, is carried through Chronicles and continued in Matthew and Luke (The difference between the Gosepls made clear by Eusebius' reference to earlier work by Africanus). Sometimes the mother is mentioned, but always the line of descent is recorded through the fathers.<br /><br />Does this have significance in the Gospel? Yes.
