This is what Paul speaks of in his most fully developed insights into the mystery of Christ.

Paul’s first concern was always the salvation of Christians. This meant protecting the young churches from false teachings and led to the development of his “Body of Christ” concept. Using this concept Paul urges all Christians to be in submission to one another as to Christ, the Head. He writes: “You have already heard the way which God entrusted me with the grace he gave me for your sake; he made known to me by a revelation the mystery I have just described briefly – a reading of it will enable you to perceive my understanding of the mystery of Christ. This mystery, as it is now revealed in the Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets, was unknown to humanity in previous generations; that the gentiles now have the same inheritance and form the same Body and enjoy the same promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.” (Ephesians 3:2-6)

Paul’s understanding of the mystery of the Body of Christ entails his most profound insights: that the Church is the visible “pleroma”, that is, as the Body of Christ the Church participates in the cosmic rebirth under Christ, the “first born from the dead.” So the Church as Christ’s Body embraces both the created world and the entire new creation.Alice C. In fact, he constitutes the community in connection to the body and blood of Christ.

Alice, had you not posted on the male priesthood earlier, I might never have noticed how I Corinthians includes some controversial "male headship" verses at the start of Ch. 11 - right in the midst of the sacramental teachings that end Ch. 10 and pick up again in the later verses of 11. Wow... I need to stew on these for a bit.TLF+https://www.blogger.com/profile/01650010433581488888noreply@blogger.com
