The Years of Waiting for the Promised Heir

Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar; so she said to Abram, “The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.”

Abram agreed to what Sarai said. So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. (Genesis 16:1-4)

Alice C. Linsley

Abraham is a pivotal figure of history. He is a sent-away son who established control over a territory that extended between Kiriath-Arba (Hebron) and Beersheba. His territory was entirely in the region of ancient Edom (Idumea) and he was kin to the Horite rulers of Edom listed in Genesis 36.

Abraham's first wife was Sarah, his half-sister. Sarah resided in Hebron. His second wife was Keturah, one of his patrilineal cousins. Keturah resided in Beersheba. Both Hebron and Beersheba were in the land of Edom, called "Idumea" by the Greeks. Idumea means "land of red people." Abraham's territory extended between the settlements of his two wives and was entirely in Edom.

It was the norm for Habiru rulers to have two wives. They often had two concubines also. Abraham's concubines were Hagar, the mother is Ishmael, and Masek, the mother of Eliezer. Neither of these sons was the "proper heir" to Abraham according to the Habiru marriage and ascendancy pattern. Eliezer was Abraham's heir according to Horite law, only until Issac was born. The proper heir for the Horite Habiru rulers was always the first born son of the half-sister wife.

According to Genesis 16, Sarah was barren and had given up hope of having a child. This is after she and Abraham had been living in Canaan for 10 years. During those years Abraham had already taken his second wife, Keturah. She born Joktan (Yaqtan), Abraham's first born son. However, Joktan was not Abraham's proper heir. As the son of the cousin bride, Joktan was named after his maternal grandfather in whose kingdom he would serve as a high ranking official. According to Genesis 25, Keturah bore Abraham six sons: Joktan, Yisbak, Midian, Zimran, Medan, and Shuah. The name Yishbak means “sent away.”

Abraham had four first born sons: Joktan, Ishmael (Yishmael), Eliezer, and Isaac (Yitzak), probably born in that order. Joktan became the head of the Joktanite tribes of Arabia. Yismael became the father of the Sinai Bedouins. His Paran settlement was on the way to Egypt as indicated by these words: This is the genealogy of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s maidservant, bore to Abraham. And these were the names of the sons of Ishmael: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth, then Kadar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael and these were their names, by their towns and settlements… (Gen. 25:12-16).

No sons are named for Eliezer. He may have been a eunuch, not necessarily a castrated man, but perhaps one who is impotent, celibate, or not inclined to marry and procreate for legal reasons.

Yitzak fathered Jacob (Yacob/Yisrael), and Esau the Elder. Esau and Jacob were contemporaries of Seir the Horite, named in Genesis 36. The initial Y in these names indicates divine appointment by being overshadowed by the Sun. It is the symbol of the long horns of the bull and represents a solar cradle.

Clans related to Abraham's wife Keturah and her father Joktan the Edler

The first born sons ruled among the related clans of Horite Habiru. Abraham’s people. However, the first born sons of wives ranked above the first born sons of concubines. Joktan ranked over Eliezar, and Issac ranked over Ishmael. Joktan was a governor in the southern settlements of his maternal grandfather (Dedan, Ramaah and Sheba) and Isaac ruled the northern settlements of his father Abraham (Hebron, Beersheba, Gerar and Engedi).

Sarah's barren state would have caused her even greater misery after Abraham took his second wife and began to bear him sons. Here we find echoes of the Rachel-Leah conflict and the Hannah-Penninah conflict. In these narratives, the scorned or barren wife is vindicated by divine action on her behalf. Her long years of waiting were turned from sorrow to joy.

See the pattern? We await the return of the Promised Son, the Heir to the eternal kingdom. He has overcome death by death. He will turn our sorrow to joy and wipe away every tear.

  1. Presumably there were people living there before Abraham came. How did he convince them he was the boss now? Force? Did they recognize his priesthood?

  2. He had kinsmen there. They are called "Hittites" in Genesis and they recognized him as a "great prince" among them (Gen. 23:6)

  3. Dear Alice,
First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this! I certainly pray before sending it that you will find at least part of this worth your time to read.
I've been reading your blog on and off for a couple of months for days at a time. I've learned much but still have questions, as you'll see.
Every time I read Just Genesis I've more questions, I do use the search to look for answers... Sometimes I find answers or parts, other times not. No doubt as you read further there will be further questions:).
I've come to your latest topic to comment and ask my many questions.
I'm wondering, are we to expect the return of the Horite-King to be born within the descendants of a Horim family? The return/reincarnation of Christ Y'shuah.
I understand that you explain that the Horite were not an ethnic-group but a caste. However, they did marry among themselves which is what brought the family-line to Mari-am, Mother of Yahshuah Christ the Prophesied by the Ancient Horim-Priesthood.
I would like to know more about the modern Horite. I found the article excellent-as are all you write; "A Kindling of Ancient Memory" where you say to click on Sea'Key's name for his profile... However, there is no place to click on his name. Could you give me this info and a possibility to connect with Sea'Key if he should agree to allow me to do so?
I just had to delete more than half my message. I'm not sure if even this much is allowed. If so, maybe I'll add the rest another day.
    Thank you for your time.
    Blessings!

  4. Dear Wahandah K,

There is an order to God's unfolding plan. It begins with a promise made to Abraham's ancestors living in Eden - a vast well-watered region that extended from the Upper Nile Valley to the Tigris-Euphrates Valley. The "Edenic Promise" concerns "the Woman" who would bring forth the "Seed" of God and that Seed would crush the serpent's head. The serpent in this narrative represents death, the direct effect of disobedience. This is the first promise or prophesy concerning Messiah who would trample down death by His death.

The Horites did not believe in reincarnation or transmigration of the soul. They believed in bodily resurrection from the dead. They expected ONe to come who would die and rise and lead His people to immortality.

Horites today are found among Jews and Arabs. They can only be identified by DNA tests. They no longer serve as a priestly caste, however. With the appearing of Yeshua Messiah, the priesthood of the Horim/Horites has fulfilled its prophetic purpose.

Sea'Key has apparently changed his contact information. He has not responded to the last 2 emails I have sent him.

Thank you for reading JUST GENESIS. I am glad to answer any questions you might have.

    Many blessings to you!

  5. Dear Alice, Good Morning!
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer!
I did not mean to offend by using the word reincarnation. I apologize for being so careless in using such a word!
However, I had been expecting Y'shuah to be born again to a family of Blessing. Though, I understand now that we will be waiting for Him to come up out of his grave wherever it is... Is that what you are sharing here? Does anyone know where His grave is?
Also, are you saying that the Horite/Horim are no longer significant to the spiritual implications of Y'shuah's return? So, it is all simply interesting history to give us understanding of the ancestors of Y'shuah, but that is all? If this is the case, it does not seem that any of my other questions are relevant.
However, maybe you could tell me where to go to find more extensive information on the Basque peoples. I know they are not your area, but you may know of someone who knows of them. I've done extensive searching online and not found much. I'm specifically looking to know more of the name Montoya, which is a Basque name. Even maybe any knowledge of the name itself. I know it means people of high-places, which I do not know if it is simply a place name or if it represents something spiritual. Someone who is an etymologist may know. But, maybe you are an etymologist yourself. Thank you for any help you might direct me in finding more.
Have a delightful day! Thank you again for your time!
    Blessings! Wahandah K

  6. No offense was taken.

As a Biblical Anthropologist who has studied the kinship, marriage and ascendancy pattern of Abraham's Horite people, I am convinced that Jesus is Messiah, who died and rose again on the third day, as prophesied.

Montoya refers to high places and possibly to a very old name for God - Ya/Yah. The Basque ancestors build circles of standing stones and forged implements of copper. Genetically they are most closely related to archaic populations of Eastern Europe. You will find that the information you are seeking is related to peoples of Haplogroup r1b and Haplogroup 12a.

  7. Good Morning! Alice,
Thank you ever so kindly for the name info! I had not thought of doing a search of DNA. That added more understanding. I was surprised that those who shared the DNA of the Basque had no connection with them to the African, Jew or Arab as I was expecting them to be the ancient ancestors of the Horite/Horim. Though, they still possibly could be as the Basque seem to be the descendants of the last of the Hunter/Gathers, who certainly came out of Africa. They do say that the Hunter/Gathers do come out of Africa, but the African DNA is lost being so very ancient. That is what I’m reading, does that make since?
Apologies again! Of course, He will appear in Glory out of the Heavens one day as He rose from the grave after three-days.
Forgive my seeming ignorance. I'm being childish wanting there to be significance in the decedents of Yahshuah’s siblings and cousins… In that ignorant-foolishness I was hoping for there to be Horite/Horim to be living today as the Priest of which you teach. Or at least hoping there would be some who are living in this day and time with the spiritual-awareness of their ancestors. They at this point in time would seemingly be much more intriguing with integrity than the vast majority of those teaching in churches today.
Or rather than other than yourself, since you are teaching what they once taught. Of course, all that you teach is to put a better light on the history of Y’shuah’s people and that He is the prophesied ONe, as you’ve stated.
You have worked hard putting many many years of dedication into your work to give us such fascinating information. I’ve certainly enjoyed the many hours and days of reading. I’m sure many others in the future will certainly be captivated with a new understanding of Bible history.
It is curious that Sea’Key has disappeared.
Thank you, again, for your time! Many Blessings to you and yours!!

  8. Good Morning, Again, Alice,
Could you please tell me which of the 17 family languages is Basque or Euskara, please?
I have found that the Basque people call themselves euskaldunak and that euskara would literally mean "way of saying". Also, that eguzkiko ("of the sun"), relates to their old pre-Christian beliefs of Sugoi (dragon-king high fire) also known as Maju and MARI (mother of God). Sugoi and Mari would meet at sunset on Friday (Hebrew Sabbath) traveling across the sky as a fireball from dry to wet mountains conceiving storms of thunder and lightening.
Do you think that the Mari of the Euskara is the same Hathor-Mari who was overshadowed by the Sun giving birth to Horus the Son of Ra? The Blessed Mari who was overshadowed again as mother of Y'shauah.
Thank you again for your time.
    Blessings Always! Wahandah K

  9. Noticing more and more that the wives of these ancient rulers lived far apart. Was this so the wives could be near her own kin? Alternatively, could it be that as accepted as the practice of polygyny had been, it was still a point of contentions with the wives that they had to share a husband?

Sarah and Hagar's contentious relationship seems to suggest that a wife could be jealous of a concubine.

Must have been a real headache for King Solomon to manage.

  10. Jay,

The archaic rulers had only two wives. David broke that pattern for political reasons and his son Solomon was especially criticized by the propehts for having a harem. More than two wives and multiples concubines was NOT the practice of the ancient Horite rulers.

Yes. This is the solar symbolism of the Proto-Gospel and the Basques ae among the descendants of the dispersed peoples whose rulers and priests spread this belief system. See this: http://jandyongenesis.blogspot.com/2011/07/solar-imagery-of-proto-gospel.html

  12. Dear Alice,
Thank you again ever so kindly for taking the time to reply. I've spent another day following the article you suggested above from one to another article as I read.
In my first posting to you I used the word reincarnation and was corrected. I understand that Christians do not believe in reincarnation. However, as I had read that reincarnation was a word used for resurrection by the early church was my reasoning.
Just doing a word search of reincarnation I found this page where you say the Jewish belief of reincarnation came with the teachings of Kabbalah and not part of the ancient teaching. You also mention that your plan was cremation before becoming Orthodox.
I too intended on cremation because of lack of finances of burial options. For the same reason I've Christian family members and friends who have been cremated simply because they were unable to afford the expense of modern burial. We've planted there ashes with trees having loving Christian memorial-services. They are, of course, not forgotten as we continue to watch the trees grow out of their ashes.
Was it the Horim belief that those cremated spirit's would not find GOD? Surely our ignorance and lack of financial resources will not keep us from GOD'S Heavenly LOVE!
    Blessings of Love! Wahnadah K

  13. Dear Wahnadah

Oak trees and pine trees were sacred symbols among the Horites/Horim living in Ancient Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Southern Europe, Northern Spain, France, Germany and the Isles of Scotland, Ireland and Briton. These two trees often appear flanking solar symbols on ancient monuments, tombs, and caskets. They symbolize eternal life, or the hope of immortality, by the bodily resurrection made possible through the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ.

The Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholics do not practice cremation because that was the practice of "pagans" in the ancient world and the early Christians wanted to distinguish themselves from pagan funeral practices. Instead, the early Christians followed the Hebrew practice of intact burial, sometimes collecting the bones years later in ossuaries that were placed in secluded caves, monasteries, private chapels, etc.

For the Christian death is not the end. Whether we die and are buried intact, or eaten by lions, or cremated, ALL of us matters to our Creator and He is able to call together every molecule of our being on the Last Day. May God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit be praised and blessed from ages to ages. Amen.

  14. Wahnadah, I direct your attention to an important Basque image called the Basque Star or the Basque Cross. The Basque Cross is called "lauburu." I believe this is derived from the Akkadian word "labaru," which pertains to granting long life. Labaru is related to the Akkadian "labiru" which means old/ancient. There appears to be a linguistic link between Basque and ancient Akkadian.
