In my opinion, some mistakes have been made in Bible interpretation because people assumed that the rabbinic interpretation is correct, or that a word is Hebrew when it is actually Old Arabic or Akkadian. The Arabic root nfy المنفى, means to be in exile. With the Arabic we see that Nimrod was a sent-away son, like Cain and Abraham. Sent-away sons were kingdom builders. Nimrod is described as one of the first to be a mighty one on the earth (Gen. 10).
